Voters in our area are selecting candidates in two congressional races, choosing a Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, and deciding who'll run in several state legislative races come November.

The economy and which candidate is best qualified is what seems to be on the mind of nearly every voter.

It didn't take long to get voters talking about what they want their candidate of choice to work on if elected to office.

“Gas prices definitely because I'm a college student and gas prices so are high,” said Sarah McKettrick.

“The schooling the public schools; we need to have big change,” said Gertrude Postell.

With several nominations in key local and state races up for grabs, some voters are willing to give newcomers a chance.

“With the economy the way it is I think it's our duty to go out and vote for the people we feel might be able to make a difference in our future,” said Ralph Bowles.

Others are sticking with their current political leaders to make change.

“I like the incumbent and I want to make sure as much as I can the incumbent stays in office,” said Jim Channell.

Whether a Democrat or Republican nearly all voters we talked with agree on what their political hopeful must keep in mind.

“This isn't a part time job, this is a full time job,” said Bowles.

“I would like to be represented by someone with morals and character,” said McKettrick.

Morals and character, many say, can only be kept by candidates keeping their campaign promises.
