McCain heads to Georgia for fundraiser

ATLANTA (AP) - GOP Presidential hopeful John McCain swept into Georgia to scoop up campaign cash, $1.75 million, for his White House bid.

The Arizona Republican headlined a fundraiser Monday evening at
the Marriot Marquis in downtown Atlanta that drew many of the
state's Republican bigwigs.

Democrats went on the attack Monday, citing a fundraising e-mail
sent out on McCain's behalf by former Christian Coalition executive
director Ralph Reed. McCain was chairman of the Senate Indian
Affairs Committee, which investigated Reed's ties to disgraced
Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff. That probe helped sink Reed's
2006 bid for lieutenant governor in Georgia.

Reed called the Democratic attacks ``absurd'' and said he has no
official role in the McCain campaign.
