AUGUSTA, Ga. - Incumbent Republican Saxby Chambliss and Democratic challenger Jim Martin spent the day making last minute campaign stops across the state, including here in Augusta before Tuesday’s Senate runoff.

“The 41st Republican seat in the U.S. Senate is critical. That's why the world is watching Georgia tomorrow," said Chambliss.

Chambliss made his plea for Augusta to vote Republican in the hotly contested race.

Challenger Jim Martin also tried to swing the Democratic vote.

“I've got the record for standing up to the middle class. I've been talking about that and that's where Chambliss and I disagree," said Martin.

The one thing both candidates agree on - each needs Georgia's vote to help determine the balance of power in Washington.

Right now Senate Democrats are just two votes shy of the 60 needed to block GOP filibusters.

Georgia is one of two still unresolved U.S. Senate races. The other is in Minnesota where a recount is underway between Republican Senator Norm Coleman and Democrat Al Franken.
