A new country music group with Augusta roots is making a big impact with their first CD. Lady Antebellum surprised students at Lakeside High School with a special concert Monday morning.

The reason - group members Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood graduated from Lakeside in 2000.

Lady Antebellum performed their current hit single, "Love Don't Live Here.” It's from their album, which debuted at number one on the country charts and the top five on Billboard's Top 200 for all music genres.

Charles Kelley's brother Josh is also making a name for himself in pop music. He's recorded several albums.

Lady Antebellum seemed to come out of no where climbing the country music charts with their number one CD.

So who's the voice and lyrics behind the band? The two guys in the group: Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, began their music career right here in Augusta.

"We used to play when we were 14 years old at the Red Lion Pub," said Charles Kelley, Lady Antebellum.

Charles played in a band with his brother Josh Kelley, called Inside Blue. They dreamed of hitting it big and did what it took to make it happen. Josh moved to Nashville to pursue a music career of his own making a break through with his song, "Only You". Soon after, Charles followed.

"He's the reason I got back into music. He talked me into moving to Nashville. We've played together since we were young and we all followed the journey together," said Charles Kelley.

Josh says he's glad to have his brother join him in the spotlight.

"It's a healthy competition. If he starts doing good then I want to make a great album. And If I start doing good, then he wants to make one. It keeps the passion there," said Josh Kelley, solo artist.

Dave Haywood soon joined Charles in Nashville, a decision he says he was worried about.

"It was a huge risk financially. We were living in debt for about a year, trying to make it happen,” said Haywood, Lady Antebellum.

But Charles and Dave say things didn't pick up until they linked up with Nashville-native Hillary Scott.

"We just had chemistry and connection. We wrote a lot of songs and started playing shows. I think it really hit me that we could make it work,” said Haywood.

"I always make sure people know where I'm from. That this is what I write about. I write songs about Augusta, Georgia, all the time,” said Josh Kelley.

Hillary Scott says working with the guys, makes her feel like Georgia is her second home.

"Georgia creeps up a lot into our songs. I love it. There's a lot of Georgia connections, so I'm an honorary Georgian," said Hillary Scott, Lady Antebellum.

With both Josh and Charles music careers taking off, both say they couldn't have done it without their family.

"My dad helped me out when I was in Nashville, broke, he helped me get by. My mom has always been really encouraging," said Charles Kelley.

It's that encouragement and support that's helped turn dreams into reality for two big music acts with Augusta roots.

Music definitely runs in the family for both Lady Antebellum and Josh Kelley. Lady Antebellum group member Hillary Scott is the daughter of Grammy-awarding winning Country singer Linda Davis.

Josh and Charles' parent bought them instruments when they were about 12 years old.

And Dave Haywood starting playing the guitar in the fifth grade.
