Attorney: Paternity Test Shows James Brown II Is James Brown's Son

By NBCAugusta Producers

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ An attorney for the 6-year-old son of a
woman who claimed to be James Brown's wife when he died says an
independent DNA test confirms the soul singer fathered the child.

Peter Shahid, an attorney for James Brown II's guardian, told
the Associated Press on Friday that the boy was tested in April
before a South Carolina judge ordered a paternity test.

Brown II is the son of Tomi Rae Hynie, a former backup singer
for the Godfather of Soul.

The results of the court-ordered test have not been released.

Trustees handling Brown's estate have suggested Hynie was not
legally married to Brown and her boy is not his son. They were not
mentioned in Brown's will.

A call to a spokesman for Hynie and a message left for Brown's
trustees were not immediately returned.

The story was first reported by Art Harris, in his blog ``The
Bald Truth.'' We've put a link on this page.

Brown died in Atlanta on Christmas Day 2006.
