LOS ANGELES (NBC NEWS) - At the Jackson family home in Los Angeles, fans continue to show their outpouring of support for Michael Jackson.

Several miles away, the BET awards were held Sunday night, It was the first public tribute to the pop star.

It was a moving tribute. This year's BET awards were transformed into a celebration of the life of Michael Jackson.

Celebrities and entertainers honored Jackson and his contributions to the world of music. Michael's father Joe Jackson was there along with sister Janet who made a tearful speech on stage.

"To you Michael is an icon, to us Michael is family and he will live forever in all of our hearts," Janet Jackson said.

Meanwhile, an attorney for Jackson’s doctor is revealing more details about the final minutes of the pop star's life.

Dr. Conrad Murray’s attorney said Jackson had a faint pulse and his body was still warm when Murray found him in bed not breathing.

The attorney also says the doctor had nothing to do with Jackson’s death.

"When the investigation is complete, when toxicology is done, when everything is done in this case, Dr. Murray will be exonerated," attorney Edward Chernoff said.

Questions also remain about who will get custody of Jackson’s three children. A family attorney will go to court on behalf of Jackson’s mother, Katherine.

"More than likely it will be Mrs. Jackson because Michael was extremely close to her," Jackson’s manager Frank Dileo said.

Now, the focus has turned to the funeral. The Jackson family is enlisting the help of the Rev. Al Sharpton.

"He never got credit, he was not a freak. He was a genius," Rev. Al Sharpton said.

A musical genius plagued by controversy in his life, yet immortalized by fans around the world in his death.

So far there are no formal funeral plans, but there are reports that three of the Jackson brothers visited Neverland ranch, leading to speculation that it could play some role in the memorial service.
