Woman Accused Of Killing Children Found Dead In Georgia

By Associated Press

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP)- An Alabama woman accused of driving her
car into the Cahaba River with her two children in the back seat
almost three years ago has been found dead in Georgia.

Attorney Tommy Spina says 32-year-old Leigh Whitaker Skinner died in a bed at a friend's home in Macon, Georgia, yesterday.

Spina was representing Whitaker on a double manslaughter charge in Shelby County, Alabama.

Skinner's children, 5-year-old Ashlyn and 18-month-old Bryson, died July 16th, 2005, when the BMW she was driving crashed into the river off a U.S. 31 bridge embankment.

An autopsy will be done at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Decatur, Georgia.

Skinner lived in Hoover at the time of the crash but had been living in Georgia since being released on $50,000 bond on the manslaughter charges.
