Some Local Students Begin Summer School To Prepare To Retake CRCT Exam

By NBC Augusta Staff

Hundreds of students are heading back to the classroom this week for summer school.

Most of them will be 5th and 8th graders preparing to retake the math portion of the CRCT.

Statewide, nearly 40 percent of students failed the exam.

School leaders in both Richmond and Columbia counties tell NBC Augusta they expect high enrollment.

Children who failed a section of the CRCT aren't required to attend summer school, but it's recommended they take the classes to prepare for the retake.

In Georgia, 5th and 8th graders must pass the math and reading portions of the CRCT before they can move on to the next grade.
