It's news that will ease the minds of parents across Georgia.

NBC Augusta has learned there's hope for students who don't pass the CRCT, even after they retake it.

"At a parent or school's request a committee will form to take a look at a child's past and determine if that child should be held back or move on," said Lisa Soloff, Columbia County Schools Administrator.

School leaders in Columbia County estimate three quarters of the students who go before a committee win their appeal and are promoted to the next grade.

"It could have been a bad test day for the student or test anxiety. Some students just don't test well, but their daily performance is great," said Soloff.

In other cases a student's age is considered. Something some parents say they're grateful for.

Data from the Georgia Department of Education shows about one in 13 eighth-graders who failed the math portion of the CRCT last year was barred from advancing to high school.
