Waynesboro's first cold case of the year is warming up. A man wanted for questioning in the death of a Burke County father turned himself into police Monday afternoon.
Johnny Paul Jones Junior was killed two months ago in a brutal shooting. "Junior was just a loving person," said his sister Jaquanna Jones.
But early in morning on May 20th, a gunman used an assault rifle to fire bullets through a house Jones was visiting. Jones was shot to death.
Weeks later investigators say they have no leads and no suspects.
"We have done all we think humanly possible to find this person or persons and we don't know any more we can do at this point," said Karl Allen, Police Chief.
Investigators say the shooting may have been drug related. They found a large amount of crack, powder cocaine, and marijuana in the house. But investigators say Jones was only visiting the house with his girlfriend.
He had no criminal record, no apparent drug problems, or enemies.
"He was in the wrong place at the wrong time," said Jones' mother Tosha Jones. "Certainly they found drugs over there, but my son was not a drug dealer," she said.
The son she lovingly calls junior left behind a three year old son and several sisters and brothers. They say they won't rest until his killer is brought to justice.
"Waynesboro is such a small town. Somebody out there knows something," said Tosha Jones.
A reward is being offered for any tips that lead to an arrest in the. And the family says they will double that reward.
As for Robert Robinson the man taken in for questioning, he will take a polygraph test tomorrow morning.
Chaquita Ellison, Jones' girlfriend was also shot that day. She has been out of the hospital for several weeks and friends say she is doing much better.
