Shepeard Community Blood Center gets new plasma and platelets donor center

The Shepeard Community Blood Center will now make its donors more comfortable while they donate.

The center had its grand opening of its new Special Donations Center Wednesday. The blood center is converting its 112 Davis Road location from a whole blood center to one that is dedicated to platelet and plasma collection.

Platelets or Plasma donors can now enjoy personal plasma TVs, movies, quality refreshments and even wireless Internet access while they give.

"Just in 2008, the hospitals increased their usage 22 percent, which means we must react to that change because the hospitals keep expanding and taking on more complicated patients, the blood usage is rising," says President and CEO of Shepeard Community Blood Center, Kevin Belanger.

Whole blood donors who have been visiting Shepeard West can donate at one of our other facilities including Shepeard Evans, just six minutes away at 460 North Belair Road.
