The father of eleven children in Burke County turned himself to the sheriff Friday. Jeremy Long is charged with cruelty to children. His bond was denied.

This is a story we first told you about on NBC Augusta last Thursday.

Burke County investigators say they found 11 children living in unfit conditions with no running water, no electricity and little food.

Investigators say the children were living in unfit conditions with little food, no running water and no electricity.

The emergency custody was granted after a court hearing Monday.

The children range in age from 10-months to 18-years-old.

Investigators say the kids have never been enrolled in school or seen a doctor.

Investigators say the mother told them her kids were home schooled.

They are still looking for Jeremy Long who is the children's father.

Investigators say he could face several counts of child neglect, abuse, abandonment and child deprivation.

Deputies say they discovered the kids while investigating a break-in.

They say some of the children tried to break into a house in their neighborhood.

They say their investigation led to the family.

One of the children is 18.

She is staying with her mother, Christine Long, at a hotel.

The Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) is investigating years of possible neglect and abuse.

Investigators say the mother is trying to look for a new home.

The community is taking donations to help buy food, clothing and toiletries for the children.

Donations can be made to the Burke County Department of Family and Children Services, 729 W. Sixth St., P.O. Box 390, Waynesboro, GA 30830-0390.

Did mother drive? Where were the kids born? Do they have birth certificates, social security cards? They were out in the middle of nowhere, why? Why was the father in town? Did he have utilities there? Did he help them with supplies? Where did he find the mother? How old was she when they married? When did he move her out there? Where were the neighbors? Why didn't they notice or offer help to this family? They've survived years with mother. Don't take them from her. Educate them. Jail father!

Did anyone read about the mother's response? The officer spent over an hour talking with her. No emotion, no understanding. She admitted to not being the best mother, but was doing the best she "knew" how. That's why there's no charges. She kept those kids health in those conditions. They need to be educated, given a better diet, but they all seemed happy. That mother pulled of a miracled with almost nothing! There are questions here - I think the father was controlling, he did this too them.

I beleive the mother and daughter ( being of age )should also be charged with child abuse and neglect. How could this mother homeschool children when she had no knowledge of how to provide basic needs for her children. If the system allows those children to return to her care, then the system is also neglectful.

There is no excuse for this there are too many churches and organizations that help families in need! i am noones judge but the mother and father both should be ashamed of themselves!! i hope and pray that they find good decent homes and have a wonderful life.

TO RICK AND HI TEK RENECK,APPARENTLY YALL ARE NOT CHRISTIANS BECAUSE PRAYER IS THE FIRST THING THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN. I AGREE PEOPLE NEED TO GET OUT AND HELP BUT THE WORST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN TO THESE KIDS IS GET PUT INTO NON CHRISTIAN HOMES WHERE THE PARENTS DON'T BELIEVE IN PRAYING WITH THEM AND TELLING THEM ABOUT THEIR REAL FATHER JESUS CHRIST WHO LOVES THEM SO MUCH THAT HE SENT IS ONLY SON TO DIE ON THE CROSS FOR THEIR SINS AND OUR SINS SO THAT ONE DAY HE COULD SPEND ETERNALLIFE IN HEAVEN

I live in Aiken County South Carolina. Am I eligible to foster any of these children? Please email me @ the previous address. Thank you!

If you are interested in being a foster parent (Mom and Dad in Evans) you should call GA DFCS at (706) 541-1640. The counties are desperate for good foster parents.

I have three children. It is the most rewarding job I have ever had. Times are tough sometimes but I would never allow a child to live in a house without the basic necesities. The community needs to come together to get them back together. What happend to help thy fellow brothers and sisters? I do think that parenting classes are needed and a lot of counseling. But do not write off these parents. When they get the help they must need, they can become parents that are able to provide 4 the kids.

The mother should be charged for neglect, just as well as the father. They are a poor excuse for parents. My mother raised 9 kids by herself after my father died and we never went hungry and we also went to school everyday. I thank God, everyday for giving my brothers and sisters a great woman for a mother. Neighbors or other family members should have spoke up sooner. Why is the mother living in a motel, while her kids are out by themself in a house with no lights. She does not need these kids

We would take in all eleven children tomorrow, if there was someone who could help me support them financially, and with medical support. Does anyone know who I should contact to do this?

Sunday, Aug 3 at 10:38 PM Judge not, lest ye be judged wrote ...

I think we all need to walk in the parents footsteps before judging, the Doctors as I heard it states that the children are healthly from 18yrs down to 10m, and that is no small feat even with 1 child going to Doc. visits as appointed thru childhood. I think that the children should be given back and the parents offered parenting classes and offered help if they so accept. not all families can live like the Jones down the street.

Come on people, where is the daddy? what about birth control? Who is paying for the hotel for the mom and 18 year old? People have to take responsibility for their own actions. the kids are the only ones who are really suffering here sounds like the daddy might need investigating something just not right about all this.

It makes you wonder how it went on for so long...wouldn't the neighors see that there was no electricity and that the kids didn't go to school? People have to speak up when they suspect that something isn't right.

I know it's hard to provide for 2 children much less 11 children, but to subject them to deplorable living conditioning is not acceptable. There are agencies and churches that could have helped this family. It's ashamed that now the kids will have to be separated.

That is awful. I feel so sorry for those children. I hope that they find good homes and the parents need help. I will pray for them.
