Mother accused of leaving baby in hot car

By NBC Augusta Staff

A mother in Burke County is charged with cruelty to children.

A shopper says he found 18-month-old baby alone in a hot car.

Investigators say the woman left the baby in the car at a Wal-Mart parking lot in Burke County for more than 30 minutes on Monday.

Investigators were called out after a shopper heard the baby crying.

The car was not running and a window was cracked slightly.

The child was treated for possible dehydration and was released to his aunt.

OMG, i have more respect for my Greyhounds than some people have for there children. I would not even consider leaving them in the car on a hot day. This mother deserves to spend some alone time locked up and away from anyone she can do harm to.

I don't care if the errand only takes 5 mins. There is no reason to leave a child of any age in the car alone...especially on a hot day!! Do not procreate if you can not take of your children and choose to be a selfish human!!! How many more babies will have to die until parents get the message to look in the back seat before they get out of the car!!!!!

Put the mother in the car on a hot day with only a slightly crack the window and let her see what her baby had to endure. And, Chante, leaving a child, let alone a baby in a car, even with an A/C, for any period of time is just plain wrong. Maybe it is just me, but I do not share your so called sense of humor especially when a child is involved.

Consider what could have happened if the passing-by shopper would not have responded. Remember this -do what is right if you are in a similar situation!
