Tax time in Columbia County, Richmond County taxes on hold

By NBCAugusta Staff

On Friday Columbia county is mailing out tax bills.

People will have until November 15 to pay, there will be a penalty for late payments.

Last week Georgia's Governor announced he was freezing more than $400 million in state grants for homeowner property-tax relief.

Columbia County's tax commissioner tells NBC Augusta that the bills are going out anyway but people might have to pay more if commissioners decide to raise taxes to make up the difference.

In Richmond County, tax bills are on hold as commissioners
decide how to handle the freeze on property tax relief.
