Fire leaves several families homeless

By Liz Hill lhill@nbcaugusta.com

Several families are homeless this morning after a fire burned a downtown Augusta apartment complex.

The fire happened around 8:30 Sunday night at Sunset Apartments on Essie McIntyre Boulevard.

Investigators believe the fire started in a kitchen.

Four apartments were damaged due to smoke, but no one was hurt in the fire.

Investigators are still searching for an exact cause.
