News Alert: 2 men accused of stealing Fort Gordon's equipment

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) -Two day laborers are accused of stealing
more than $244,000 worth of Army equipment from Fort Gordon for
sale to an Augusta recycling center.

A Richmond County sheriff's report says 37-year-old Marquette
Mitchell and 33-year-old Omar Gavin are charged with felony theft
by receiving stolen property.

Investigator Kendall Brown, who investigates metal thefts, said
the two workers for a subcontractor on the post received $308 from
the recycling center last week for items valued at $100,000.

The thefts, including antennas and cable used on Army Humvees,
came from a maintenance storage facility.

Army investigators are pursuing federal charges against the men.
