Columbia County Commission approves infrastructure tax vote

By Dustin Blanchard dblanchard@nbcaugusta.com

There were fewer fireworks Tuesday at the Columbia County Commission meeting.

The commission approved a continuation of the SPLOST one cent sales tax and a list of infrastructure projects it will fund.

Voters will have to approve that in November.

"I think there's something in there for everyone," said Commission Chairperson Ron Cross. "If you recall our most popular attraction today is the library and ampitheater and that was a SPLOST project back in 2000. These projects have been very favorably looked upon by the general public as far as improving quality of life and meeting basic needs."

Also on the November ballot: property tax hike to fund a new aquatic and tennis center.

Cross says it would be state of the art and could even draw tournaments to the county.
