UPDATE: Man charged in deadly stabbing

By NBC Augusta Staff

Richmond County investigators have arrested a man for stabbing another man to death. Ernest Lane Senior is charged with killing Seth Taylor at America's Best Value Inn on Washington Road.

Investigators tell NBC Augusta Taylor was stabbed more than 20 times, he died early Thursday morning at MCGHealth.

Investigators say the two men got into a fight and it turned violent when Taylor brought out a knife, but Lane was able to get the knife away before stabbing Taylor.

Taylor was from Charleston, South Carolina. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday at the GBI Augusta Crime Lab to determine the exact cause of death.

I was friends with Seth when we were kids (Ira Jones Elementary) and was shocked to hear about his death. It's so sad to see that things turned out this way and I can only wonder what direction his life took as an adult to lead to such a tragic & unnecessary end.....

I knew Seth Taylor when he was a little kid, before any trouble came in to his life. Drugs kill, simple as that. Rest in Peace.

Read the Articles on this. The guy pulls the knife Lane takes it away and stabs him 20 times. A bit excessive Ive heard but if you read all the articles related to this the man was still up when officers arrived. So If a man continue to comes at you shoudl the amount really count? He brought the weapon with the intent of taking your life so how much is really excessive? To what ectent do we say hey okay i got you now its your turn.

Adrenaline can sustain a person through a lot of physically injury. It's very possible that one knife wound (or even twenty) would not stop an attacker. So 20 stabs is not necessarly "over-kill." I've seen cases where an assailant was shot 2 and 3 times in the chest and continued an attack. So it is usually a loss of blood or a neurological disruption (such as a blow to the head) that stops a determined attacker. The ferociousness of a defense is determined by the ferociousness of the attack.

I agree With self defense. But stab someone 20 or times is a bit of an overkill. Its wrong I think Lane should stay in jail.I knew Seth too and the way he died is just wrong. No one should die like that. Person that's good or bad.

Yes, it was the same. Fortunately his son has been in the care of a foster family for some time now. His is the only tragedy here. Hopefully he'll have a chance in life now.

Does anyone know if this was the same Seth Taylor that has a young son named Tristin ?

This station should do a more in-depth story on this. Maybe it was self defense but I guarantee you that if this guy had anything to do with Seth Taylor then drugs were involved. But even if it was a drug deal gone bad, a person still has a right to defend themself.

A man is dead. Lane will be able to plead that it happened in self defense. A jury will decide.

I agree. A person does have a right to defend themselves. I knew Seth Taylor very well and can tell you that I would NOT be anywhere around him unless I was armed. He was a dangerous, career criminal and a drug addict. 20 times is not excessive. Even if 1 stab can kill hours later, it may have well, taken 20 stabs to stop him at that moment. Even with 20 wounds it still took him hours to die. I hope this man is released.

I Know Ernest and its a shame a man takes a knife away from another man and stabs him but yet he gets charged with murder. Whatever happened to self defense. Do we not have the right to defend ourselves anymore?
