EVANS, Ga. - Several counties in the CSRA are getting ready for flu season.
Columbia County started giving flu vaccines Wednesday.
Columbia County Nurse Manger Phyllis Rowland tells NBC Augusta turnout was lower than they expected.
She said it may be because people think you need to have a prescription, but you don’t.
Rowland also says it's important for people to know how important it is to get your vaccination.
"We lose 36,000 people a year to influenza complications...any other disease where we'd lose 36,000 people would be lined up for prevention. And we want to get that message out," said Rowland.
Columbia County’s next vaccine clinic is Friday, October 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Evans Government Center Auditorium. Columbia County will also have clinics on October 8, 9 and 10. The Appling and Harlem clinics will offer the same clinics on the same dates. The cost is $25.
Richmond County’s first vaccine clinic is Thursday, October 2 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. You can also get your vaccination Friday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. You can call the Richmond County Health Department at (706) 667-4250 for additional clinic dates and locations. The cost is $25.
In Aiken County, you can get your vaccination at the Aiken County Council Building October 15 by appointment. You can call (803) 643-9586 for additional dates and locations. The cost is $25.
