Thirteen restaurants received perfect scores of 100 and three others scored 80 or below on restaurant inspections in Georgia-Carolina this week.

Keep in mind, the score is based on what inspectors found the day they visited the restaurant.

Lowest grades of the week:

Applebee's on North Belair Road in Evans scored a 78.  Some of the violations inspectors found were employee drinks on the cook line and prep table, not covering some of their food that's kept in storage and not having a cold holding unit that worked properly.

Oriental Chinese Restaurant on Tobacco Road in Hephzibah received a 79.  Inspectors found food at improper temperatures, packaged foods placed in the ice machine and dirty utensils stored.

The third restaurant on the low score list is KFC on Wrightsboro Road in Grovetown.  It received an 80.  Inspectors found food at improper temperatures, un-sanitized utensils and unclean walls and floors.

Thirteen restaurants in Georgia-Carolina received a perfect score of 100.

Ray's Tavern on Wagner Road in Aiken

Number One China on North Main Street in New Ellenton

New China Buffet on Knox Avenue in North Augusta

Every food place in the world should wear gloves. Even handling money. We have more germs in this world. Most can kill on contact. They should also be changed often. Germs carry or you carry them from one place to another. I've seen people come from the restroom then go prepare food with out gloves. Next time you go to a fast food like Macdonalds or burger king watch. Not all wear gloves even the ones putting the food on your tray. They handle money then your food.

To Love Food, I also know they are supposed to wear gloves. They sure don't at BK or McDonalds in Aiken.

At McDonald's on Georgia Avenue, the person at the drive-thru window pressed the drink cup cap against her dirty shirt before putting it on the top of the cup. She did this for the customer behind me, too.

Bojangles on Edgefield Road in North Augusta got a 100? There is No way! The employees pick up stuff off of the floor and then go back to cooking, serving, and waiting on customers without washing hands! I'd like to know the qualifications for the inspectors. I'm guessing a GED is the only requirment.

Hey! Just wanted to come and try to answer some questions for those who have them. I'd like to comment to "food school service" about the glove situation. I'm so happy to hear that you and your school are doing that because that IS the rule when handling any types of raw or meats. The Health inspectors tell me that is a MUST. Maybe it has to do something with the new way theyre grading. Thanks and and enjoy this beautiful day we're having. I know I am! :)

I work at at an elememtary school cafeteria. We wear gloves when handling food for our safety and the students. The food temperatures are checked every 30 minutes. Hair nets are worn and we wear no nail polish or jewelry.

Thanks for the link to the Richmond County scores - why doesn't Columbia County list their scores?

In response to PD's comment. I appologize if I got Evans and Martinez mixed up. I went by the address on the inspection report. Thank you for your comment. From now on, I'll double check on that.

I appreciate the comments and I would like to reply to Anon's comment. I'm sure we will get locally owned restaurants as we continue to do our restaurant report cards. The reports are based on inspections that are done on a weekly basis. So, this week there may have not been a locally owned restaurant that inspectors went to but I'm sure there will be in the future and we will be happy to report it. Again, thanks for the comments. :)

I would like to know how DHEC came into a resturant I was and I say "was" working at and walked through the kitchen, barely spending any time there and gave the place a 91. Walls in the kitchen were and are covered with black mold,as well as the gaskets(where there was any) covered with mold, and the walk shelves are totally covered with rust, flaking and peeling. How can that be. And a professional would wear gloves for both your protection and mine. These old places need better inspections.

You should try checking on the LOCALLY owned food establishments. Many also have 100's.

I don't think I want my lunch anymore. Why do these places even pay managers ? It is their job to make sure the place is clean and sanitation procedures are followed. I have seen people rub their face or play with their hair and then go right back to cooking food. WASH YOUR NASTY HANDS !!! I think I will brown bag it for now. At least I know my kitchen at home is cleaner than some of these places. Heck, my bathroom is cleaner than the kitchen in some of these places.

Ginza and Applebee's on N.Belair are in Evans, not Martinez.

I think the inspectors need to come inspect Mi Rancho's on Richland Avenue in Aiken. They have the big black roaches (known as palmetto bugs) crawling on the walls inside the restuarant.

Actually I worked in the food industry, and no, you don't have to wear gloves, but you do have to wash you hands. I prefer to wear gloves, when I hand mix things, but if I'm making a sandwich, I use my CLEAN hands.

In watching the scoring of restarants I'm curious if the employees were wearing gloves. If that has anything to do with score mcdonalds and burger king would fail every time. Can't help but think if you help we could at least get them to obey the law.
