Obama gets 2 more judgeships in Ga. to fill

ATLANTA (AP) - President-elect Barack Obama will have two more
federal judgeships to fill in Atlanta. U.S. District Court Judges Jack Camp and Orinda Evans will take senior status.

Judge R. Lanier Anderson of the 11th U.S. Court of Appeals and District Court Judge Clarence Cooper already announced they will
become senior judges early next year.

Judges taking senior status get a reduced caseload. Their positions on the bench are filled by the president.

The 65-year-old Evans was the first female federal judge in the
Northern District of Georgia when President Jimmy Carter appointed
her in 1979.

Camp, also 65, was named to the bench by President Ronald Reagan
in 1988. Judge Julie Carnes will replace him as chief judge.
