Three big races including the highly-watched U.S. Senate contest between Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss and Jim Martin has Georgia voters heading back to the polls on Tuesday.
In the general election, Chambliss fell short of crossing the 50 percent threshold in a three-way race against Martin and Libertarian candidate, Allen Buckley.
The senate race will help decide whether Democrats gain a big enough majority in the chamber to block Republican filibusters.
Voters will also cast their ballot for the Public Service Commission for District 4.
Republican Lauren McDonald, 69, of Clarkesville faces Democrat Jim Powell, 59, of Hiawassee in that race.
The state PSC regulates rates and spending at Georgia Power, Atlanta Gas Light and smaller utilities, and oversees the state’s deregulated gas and telephone markets.
The third race in the December 2 runoff is a seat on Georgia Court of Appeals. Neither Sara Doyle or Mike Sheffield received enough votes in November's general election. Last month's race was packed with a total of seven candidates.
The winner in this non-partisan race will succeed Judge John H. Ruffin Jr., who is retiring.
