AUGUSTA, Ga. – All eyes are on Georgia. The state's U.S. Senate runoff election could decide the balance of power in Washington.

Incumbent Republican Saxby Chambliss is taking on Democratic challenger Jim Martin in a runoff forced after neither candidate received 50 percent of the vote in last month's general election.

Statewide, voter turnout has been steady and few problems have been reported.

It's been a long race between Martin and Chambliss. But perhaps no one is more tired than voters.

"Big time races are always negative and you hear a lot of it from both sides and it's time for it to be done," said Jennifer Massey, voter.

Massey came to the polls to ensure the race ends her way. Others did as well.

For some that meant voting for Martin to give Democrats the upper hand in the Senate, others voted to stop that.

"I'm a firm believer that if you got one party in the White House we need balance in the Senate." said Jay Forrester, voter.

Another Augusta voter Alfred Mead said, “Obama is asking for support for the Democratic party so that's why I supported Martin."

Before Election Day, more than 7,900 Augustans took advantage of early voting.
