AUGUSTA, Ga.- Allegations against the man accused of scamming several Augusta business owners out of thousands of dollars are still coming into the NBC Augusta 26 newsroom and the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
Earlier this week, NBC Augusta 26 News told you about Deke Martin.
Martin says his company publishes discount booklets for families who are new to Fort Gordon and other bases.
Martin says businesses pay him to advertise in the booklets.
That's the problem. Business owners say he's not delivering what he promised.
One woman who worked for Martin contacted 26 News about her encounter with Martin.
“When I saw the picture of the building and his face, I thought, 'it's about time,'” said a former sales person.
The woman says she worked for Deke Martin, the man who's at the center of a military scam investigation, last April for about two weeks.
During that time she became suspicious.
"His story is that he has a relationship with the Housing Authority on post," said the former sales person.
So she contacted Fort Gordon.
"The Public Information Office tells you that they do not and will not allow any outside publication or anything like that to be distributed," said the sales person.
26 News also spoke with a Fort Gordon representative who says they have no idea who Deke Martin is.
Martin claims he distributes discount booklets to new military families at bases such as Fort Gordon and others.
Documents provided by the former salesperson show Martin was selling these booklets quarterly and bi-annually.
"If he's doing what he says he's doing, he should have distributed one in January, so where is that? This was all taking place in April so he should have had another one by then," said the sales person.
26 News attempted to talk to Martin Wednesday at his business listed at Windsor Spring Road. We also tried to call him. We were told he was not available.
The sheriff's office says Martin told them the booklets will be printed in February.
At this time, no charges have been filed but the department is continuing to investigate this case.
NBC Augusta 26 News will also continue our investigation and bring you the latest as we get it.
