The 2009 ARC Musketeers still practicing, after practice is over. They know, they have a lot to live up to.
"We base our program off of hard work, and to know he got where he is off of hard work and dedication," said Brandon Griswell, a Senior Offensive Lineman at ARC.
The Legend of Ken Whisenhunt lives large this year at ARC. And with good reason: the star 1980 Musketeer Quarterback is now Coach Whisenhunt. His Arizona Cardinals are one victory away from the Superbowl.
"He's inspired us a lot, let us know you can have success out of Augusta," said Griswell.
"They see what he's done, hear about it in the news, and hope to do what he's done," said Coach Chris Hughes. He says Whisenhunt has set the bar high for this year's Musketeers.
"He's a huge motivation for us here, just being from this school," he said.
And though this year's Musketeers have never met Whisenhunt, Coach Hughes says the pro coach's support has been material.
"We knew we'd need different things, so we gave coach a call. He was gracious with his time and his resources," Hughes said.
So, with one game until the big one, the Musketeers will be backing the Cardinals, dreaming of a ring on Coach's hand, and maybe one day their own.
"We have players hoping to follow him as far as getting to the next level and to the professional level," said Hughes.
"I'd love to play college ball. But that's some mighty big shoes to fill," agreed Griswell.
NBC Augusta will air the Superbowl on February 1st.
