Part of Georgia-Carolina looks more like Hollywood this week.
Bill Murray, Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek and Lucas Black are in Crawfordville filming "Get Low."
In the film, Robert Duvall's Character plays a hermit who wants to attend his own funeral.
The town wonders why he would want to throw a party for people he doesn't know.
NBC Augusta 26 News was the only station there for the first day of filming in the Taliaferro County town of 572.
Downtown Crawfordville is a little busier than usual this week, and that's not the only thing that's off.
"I'm just looking around, enjoying it as I see it," said Thomas E. Stephens, with 1930's automobiles on the streets behind him. He says this day was special. And he'd know, he's spent most of his life in the area.
"It's real exciting to me, I grew up on a farm. I didn't get a chance to get much school in, so this brings tears to my eyes," said Stephens.
Stephens is an extra, backing up Bill Murray and Robert Duvall in "Get Low."
It was a role coveted by the lucky Crawfordville area folks who made the cut.
"It is lots and lots of fun, it's interesting to see the actors," said Joelyn Ainley from Greene County.
Looking past the modern equipment, it's easy to see why the producer and director picked Crawfordville. It looks about like a small rural town in the 1930's.
"This is pretty typical of the 1930's era," Ainley said. "You can't order in for pizza."
"You have the old shoes, the old dresses," Actor Bill Murray described the wardrobe.
And while his name probably won't make the poster, Thomas Stephens knows, he's a star today.
"My grandkids gonna be proud of this," he weeped. "They been sayin 'Papa, when you gonna be in that movie,' I said I don't know, but I sure is."
The shoot will continue in Crawfordville this week. Filming is set to wrap up March 4th.
