AUGUSTA, Ga. - Richmond County’s Bomb Squad detonated a grenade found on a fairway at the Augusta Municipal Golf Course on Wednesday.

The hand grenade, likely dating back to World War I and more than 90 years old, was found on the greens of the Augusta Municipal Golf Course on Highland Avenue.

The bomb squad safely detonated the explosive weapon after they cleared out the area.

The grenades typically have a kill zone of 5 meters—the area anyone standing in could be killed when it explodes.

The bomb squad covered the grenade with sandbags to make sure no shrapnel escaped the area.

Despite the bomb and explosion, golfers continued to play around the area.

The property the course sits on was a training base during World War I called Camp Hancock.

Rain eventually unearthed this one and the golf course's owner tells NBC Augusta 26 News there are probably more weapons hidden in the area.
