High school dropouts cost U.S. $319B over lifetime
ATLANTA (AP) - Former West Virginia Governor Bob Wise says high school dropouts from the class of 2008 will cost the country $319 billion over their lifetime. Wise, now executive director of an advocacy group focused on high schools called Alliance for Excellent Education, was part of a town hall meeting in Atlanta on the nation's dropout crisis. Most of the students at the event said they know someone who's dropped out of school, for reasons that included joining a gang, getting pregnant or just simply not thinking school could help them get what they wanted.
