ATLANTA - A former Harlem High softball coach convicted of sexual assault is appealing her case to the Georgia Supreme Court.
NBC Augusta 26 News has learned Melissa Chase is challenging state law over the age of consent.
Chase was sentenced to 10 years for sexual assault against a 16-year-old girl in 2006.
During the trial, the student testified she initiated the relationship with Chase. The judge said consent could not be used as a defense under state law.
Georgia's Supreme Court could take several weeks to hand down a decision.
