EVANS, Ga. - Thousands from Georgia-Carolina are sending a message to Washington about their views on health care reform.
Town hall meetings held by Representative Paul Broun, R -Ga, Monday night at the Columbia County Board of Education were over crowded with concerned citizens. Many were turned away because the building was filled to over capacity.
Of those who were lucky enough to get a seat inside for the town hall meeting, the consensus on the Obama administration's health care plan was loud and clear.
When Rep. Broun held up a copy of the proposed health care reform, loud “boo’s” erupted from the crowd followed by someone shouting, “impeach Obama.”
Regarding the administration’s proposed health care plan, "I'm scared" said one man in the crowd. "The American people are saying, 'No,' I don't want this crammed down my throat!" yelled another.
Georgia congressman Paul Broun put together the meeting to answer questions and concerns citizens had on the health care reform proposals currently being passed around Washington.
He shared the public's outrage over the Democrat's plan.
"The reason Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi were trying to push this through before the August break was because they've got a stinky, rotten fish and they don't want you to smell it," said Rep. Broun.
Out of the hundreds, only a few people in the crowd disagreed with Broun's stance.
"I just think that it's equitable that everyone have access to health care,” said Sameera Thurmond, a health care reform supporter. “I realize that other people will have to pay for it; people like me. I understand that and I don't mind because that's the thing to do for other people."
Luther Funderburg has a lot at stake in health care reform. He is a senior citizen stricken with a serious medical condition and he can't get health insurance. He has tremors, causing his hands and lips to constantly shake.
He and his wife Betty are praying the government can help their situation.
“We've gone everywhere to try and get him help, but we’ve run into a brick wall,” said Betty Funderburg.
The Funderburg’s don’t agree with the Obama administration health care plan, but admit that the current health care system can’t help them—they want it reformed.
Rep. Broun says his plan to fix the nation's health care problems include putting patients in control of their health care dollars.
