Former Georgia governor makes campaign stop in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Former Georgia governor Roy Barnes stopped in Augusta to outline plans to get his old job back.

He spoke to students at Paine College.

Barnes tells NBC Augusta 26 News the election may be a year away, but an action plan is needed now to handle the state's budget shortfall and struggling job market.

"I was very concerned about the direction of our state. I'm concerned we have all of these water issues, education issues, and transportation issues and there does not seem to be anyone who has the ability training or expertise to step forward to help solve it," Barnes said.

Barnes lost re-election to current Governor Sonny Perdue in 2002. Other candidates running in the 2010 election include Fire Commissioner John Oxendine, Attorney General Thurbert Baker and Secretary of State Karen Handel.
