HARLEM, Ga. - The Rockefeller family was devastated when their
10-year-old daughter died from complications of the swine flu.
To make matters worse, they're also dealing with huge hospital bills.

Once the Harlem community learned about the bills the Rockefeller family was left with after losing their daughter Summer, they knew they had to do something.

"They were all holding together, but they were just struggling in losing her," said family friend, Alyson Hall.

"Losing your daughter at 10 years old has to be a strain on your life and it has to just put you through so many emotions, like a roller coaster," Katy Glymph, another family friend said.

When a group in the Harlem community learned about the hard times, they rose to the occasion to give the Rockefellers a boost up.

Dozens of volunteers cramped into a kitchen at Harlem Baptist Church to cook up a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the family, thanks to some motivation by friend Alyson Hall.

"I had an idea to raise money and my dad told me that a spaghetti dinner would raise a lot of money for a cheap cost," said Hall

The community poured in to the church and the tomato sauce was poured on. Each meal sold was a little bit of debt relief for a family, that based on the showing of support, means something to a lot of people.

"Aaron and his mother and family mean a lot to us and we wanted to do everything we could in our power to help them and support them to make their lives a little bit easier and better," said Glymph.

With all of the dinners sold Thursday night, event organizers estimate they raised around $2,000 for the Rockefellers.

If you would like to support the Rockefeller family, you can contact Harlem Baptist church by phone at 706-556-6439, or email, church@harlembaptist.org.

They’re located at 105 W. Milledgeville St. Harlem, GA 30814
