WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. - About 20 members of NBC Augusta's storm spotter team spent part of their Saturday touring the National Weather Service Forecast Office.

Steve Naglic, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at NWS Columbia showed spotters various weather instruments used at the office, both indoors and outdoors, including several work stations with computers capable of displaying multiple layers of weather data at once and weather observation equipment.

Naglic showed the team some of the computer models and other tools that are used by NWS meteorologists in forecasting severe weather and other types of weather events.

The NWS Office in West Columbia is located at Columbia Metropolitan Airport, and serves most of the NBC Augusta viewing area. The Atlanta and Charleston offices serve the remaining parts of the area.

Afterwards, the spotter team discussed what they had learned over lunch at a Lizard's Thicket restaurant in West Columbia.
