COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. - Investigators just released a composite sketch of the man who shot a Columbia County homeowner while breaking into his home on Monday.

NBC Augusta 26 News found out how law enforcement use computer sketches to create a picture that closely resemble crime suspects.

Columbia County investigators used a computer to create the image of a man wanted for breaking into a Columbia County home and shooting the homeowner in the leg on Monday.

So how do investigators piece together a picture that may resemble someone who's wanted? All it takes is a few clicks of the mouse and a good description.

“With this, as we are going through it. They get an understanding and I'd get an understanding of what they remember,” said Sgt. Ken Summers, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

Summers showed us how the process works. First, we picked a similar forehead, the perfect eyes, a nose, mouth and chin.

We put together a basic sketch of what I would look like using this computer program.

Take a look at this guy, on the left is the composite sketch done by the computer; on the right is his mug. It’s almost an exact match. It's images like this one that help law enforcement make arrests.

“Just having a couple of us, with as many, as we have as opposed to the public watching through the media. It expands the perimeters to help us out,” said Summers.

Investigators say if you recognize the man first shown in the story, call the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

If you didn't look at the video and just read the story, you would think the picutre shown was the perp. Not so.
