FIRST ON 26: Three-month-old with burns; Mother investigated

AUGUSTA, Ga. - A south Augusta mom is being questioned after doctors say they found third degree burns on her 3-month-old baby. According to an incident report, the mother brought her 3-month-old daughter to the hospital for burns.

Doctors say the infants had burn marks from the left knee to her bottom. They also say they noticed bite marks and scratches on her fingers, toes and ears.

Doctors say x-rays also showed an old skull fracture and four to six rib fractures. The mother told doctors the burns may have come from a hot bath and the bite marks came from her 15-month-old son.

The department of Family and Children Services has been notified.

To Somewhere, I can honestly say as a nurse, I have never seen an infant suffer skull fractures and broken ribs from childbirth. Broken clavicles are common with larger babies, but as a nurse these others would be classic signs of abuse. None of us wants to think another person would do this, but it happens. The most important thing is to protect the child!

Hmmmm,could it be the mother say this and immediately took her child to the emergency room? And you can have fractures from complication of birth. My friend when she was pushing her daughter out, broke her clavicle(sp) bone. They said it would fuse back, and it did.

As the spouse of a burn survivor, I can honestly say that for someone who is burned has to be the most horrific thing that can ever happen. It's unbearable to see what they must endure to survive and their lives are forever changed. I simply can't imagine someone doing this to an innocent child. Our prayers go out o the children and may God have mercy on the mother. She is going to need it. Very Tragic!!

Not sure how abused child and South Augusta = welfare. Anyway, it is painful just to hear that a child has suffered this much in such a short life. Many scenarios could play out here. I hope that someone will find the underlying cause of it. In the mean time, I will keep this precious soul in my prayers.

What kind of a mother is this woman, these kids need to be removed from this home and fast and take the welfare check as well, no three month old gets burns and fractures unless the child is being abused and they need to be examining the other children in the home as well..

RED FLAG! Not saying 100% that the mother did it, but for a baby to have those kinds of injuries, it's pretty likely the Mother or someone the mother knows did it. I pray the baby remains safe! Lord, protect this little angel!
