Anti-Smoking Bill Stalled In South Carolina House Of Representatives

COLUMBIA (AP)- A bill that would ban smoking in restaurants and bars across South Carolina has again stalled in a House panel.

Representative Todd Rutherford told the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday the legislation would save lives because ventilation systems don't prevent second-hand smoke from reaching customers and employees.

Representative Gary Smith argued legislators should wait on the
state Supreme Court to rule on whether cities and towns can impose
local bans. The bill was returned to subcommittee by a 13-2 vote. It's the second time this year the bill's been sent back.
