Volunteer Jimmy Carson and Make-A-Wish child, Julia Smith stopped by NBC Augusta Morning News at 11am to talk about the importance of becoming a Make-A-Wish volunteer.

The Make-A-Wish foundation has been making dreams come true for children with life-threatening medical conditions since 1980.

The organization has helped more than 160,000 children around the world fulfill life long dreams.

Julia Smith is a Make-A-Wish child. She has a disorder called Glanzmann's Thrombasthenia. The disease does not allow Julia's blood to clot and that can sometimes lead to internal bleeding.

Last year Julia's wish was to meet President Bush.

Jimmy Carson has been volunteering with the Make-A-Wish foundation for the past eight years.

Carson says it's a great way to become more active.

There is a seminar to educate people who are interested in becoming a volunteer on Saturday, July 26 at First Baptist Church on 3500 Walton Way. It's from 9 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. For more information you can call (706)733-2236 or 724-6431.
