SC researcher finds smoking bans improve air quality

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)- A new study from the Medical University
of South Carolina shows that smoking bans do indeed improve air
quality.

Researcher Matthew Carpenter of the Hollings Cancer Center sampled air quality two years ago in 23 bars and restaurants in Charleston and another 11 in Mount Pleasant.

Samples were taken again after both towns passed smoking bans
last year. The result was a 94 percent reduction in air pollution with air quality well within standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Carpenter said hospitality workers were often exposed to
second-hand smoke. He said the bans help reduce their exposure to
cancer-causing smoke.

I am hesitant to believe anything from a researcher from MUSC. I had an MRI at MUSC & they couldn't even get an accurate reading of that. I then had an MRI at Emory University Hosp. in Atlanta & they diagnosed the problem correctly...I would never go to MUSC for anything.

Air quality test results by Johns Hopkins University, the American Cancer Society, a Minnesota Environmental Health Department, and various researchers whose testing and report was peer reviewed and published in the esteemed British Medical Journal......prove that secondhand smoke is 2.6 - 25,000 times SAFER than occupational (OSHA) workplace regulations:
