AP - The health department says it is investigating a puzzling number of gall bladder surgeries among teens in the rural town of Whitmire.
About a dozen Department of Health and Environmental Control physicians and officials have been looking into the complaints that dozens of youngsters have had surgery to remove their gall bladders over the past several years.
They're looking at factors like diet, lifestyle and water quality.
D-HEC says it is planning to hold a meeting in Whitmire next week.
The gallbladder stores and concentrates the bile produced in the liver not immediately needed for digestion.
