There is finally some relief for sinus sufferers.
A North Texas hospital is offering a new treatment that cuts traditional sinus surgery and recovery time in half.
Patient Margaret Hale is trying this breakthrough procedure...a balloon sinuplasty.
After five surgeries Hale's sinus cavity is still clogged.
"This procedure will hopefully be my last. One of the reasons I'm excited about the surgery is because I see the end of the road," said Hale.
To complete the procedure a small "balloon" catheter is put in the blocked sinus passageway.
The balloon is then inflated, widening the sinus walls.
There is no scraping or bleeding like with conventional surgeries where bone and tissue is removed.
Dr. Rajiv Panditsays most patients recover fully in a week.
"This time I had surgery on Friday and I went to my grandson's baseball game on Saturday," said Hale.
Between 33 and 40 percent of people eligible for traditional sinus surgery are candidates for this new breakthrough surgery.
