It's the fifth day of triple digit temperatures and finding something refreshing to eat can be a challenge in this hot weather! Here are some foods you can eat that may help you cool off.
The hot and humid weather has most of these Fresh Market customers out of the kitchen and in the store. They’re all in search of the perfect meal to eat.
“My husband and I have just been eating salads or nothing really. It's just too hot,” says Cindy Wilson.
“Pasta, pizza, salad yogurt, fruit sounds pretty good to me right now,” says Christina Kozycki.
But great summer foods may not always be good for staying cool. In fact favorites like ice cream, fast foods and sodas can actually make you even hotter. Dr. Christopher Gibbs is Medical Director at Urgent MD in Richmond County.
“Just a couple of degrees extra of body temperature when the ambient temperature is so high can have a significant effect on the body, leading to exhaustion and heat stroke,”
he says.
So when it comes to eating think cool.
Instead of heating your soup cool off with a cold one. Salads and pastas are also good choices to keep you cool. You can have it as a meal or a side dish. Skip fruit juices. They’re loaded with sugar. Instead try fresh fruit. You'll fill less sluggish and get the benefit of fiber.
Doctors also recommend eating smaller meals in the hot weather. Make sure to avoid alcohol and drinks with caffeine
