With very little rain in the southeast recently, officials are trying to determine the right course of action to conserve water.

The Corps of Engineers is looking at three lakes: Lakes Thurmond, Russell and Hartwell, as well as the Savannah River.

They say that right now we're at a level two drought, but come December we could be at a level three.

Right now Lake Thurmond is 318 feet above sea level and ideally the corps would like levels to be at 328 feet, and full pool is at 330 feet, so the lake is at least 10 feet below where it should be.

And officials say they're trying to delay this level three drought as much as possible by controlling the amount of water that comes out of the lake.

Drought conditions are much worse in other parts of the state.

Lake Lanier is 17 feet below full pool, it's lowest level in 25 years.

Tuesday, Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue called on a higher power for help to relieve the drought.

Perdue along with other lawmakers and ministers gathered on the capitol steps just before noon to pray for rain.

The Governor has mentioned the need for prayer several times along with water conservation, as the state's drought crisis has worsened.
