720, 1080, LCD, DLP... It's confusing television tech- talk. And if you don't do your homework, buying that new high-def TV this holiday season can be downright dreadful.

"You have DLP, LCD and plasma," Best Buy sales associate Nadira Spearman said.

It's a new language of sorts. Describing and defining high definition television.

And with so many choices, so many televisions, which one is right for you?

"You have plasmas that have a gas in them. They're great for movies or football games or any type of sports. Your DLP's are TV's that have bulbs in them. They're bigger projectors and you can get them all the way up to 72 inches," Spearman said.

Last but not least, there's always LCD televisions.

"You can do anything from gaming to movies," Spearman said.

Now that we have DLP, LCD and plasma down pat, it's time for the confusing resolution.

"There's 720 and 1080. That's the number of lines that are going across the screen. 720i means interlace so imagine you're drawing a picture and you're skipping lines. P is called progressive. You're getting every line so you're getting a fuller picture," Spearman said.

Now that you've digested all that useful information comes the fun part, finding the best value on that high def TV.

"The size is 42 you want to go with. You get the best bang, value and picture for your buck," Spearman said.

Here's a secret, if you're looking for even a better deal, look for floor samples.

"They're still new or they've been on the floor and we'll work out some kind of a deal to get it in your home," Spearman said.
