Civic Center Seeking SPLOST Money for Renovations

By Jim Pinkerton

Augusta’s Coliseum Authority is taking steps to attract more people to downtown.

Members have asked the city commissioners for nearly $20 million in special purpose tax money.

They want to use the money to renovate the aging Civic Center and Bell Auditorium.

Members say performers often pass on Augusta because of the condition of the venues.

They hope upgrading the building would boost downtown economy.
