Major League Baseball superstar Roger Clemons faced a tough lineup on Capitol Hill Wednesday.

The pitcher and his former personal trainer answered questions from the House Oversight Committee about the alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Questioning on Capitol Hill turned into a case of he-said, he-said between Major League pitcher Roger Clemens and his former trainer Brian McNamee. He accuses Clemens of using steroids and human growth hormone.

"I injected those drugs into the body of Clemens at his direction," McNamee said.

"Let me be clear. I've never taken steroids or HGH,” Clemens said.

Lawmakers questioned and listened to testimony from the pair for most of Wednesday.

"It's impossible to believe that this is a simple misunderstanding. Someone isn't telling the truth," Rep. Henry Waxman said.

Eyes and ears were glued to the proceedings, shown on dozens of televisions inside an Augusta restaurant.

"I think baseball knew about this a long time ago and let it go because of the strike and they needed fans," Mike Austin said.

"I think Waxman is the instigator behind it. I don't think Congress has any jurisdiction," Mike Blackerby said.

Augusta State University Political Scientist Paul Harris says the lawmakers should be 'benched'.

"Why is it the U.S. Congress is getting involved in America's pastime? It simply doesn't make sense. At the end of the day, what ultimately will these hearings have on your life and my life? The answer is zero unless you're the owner of an Major League Baseball team," Harris said.
