The importer of candy Valentine lollipops has recalled the suckers after metal shavings were found in dozens of them.

The case first came to light in Polk County, Florida, and police do not believe the metal was placed in the red lollipops intentionally.

The night before, 10-year-old Chris Potter of Mulberry, Florida, discovered metal inside the lollipop of his Pokemon brand candy.

He intended to give the Valentine candy to his 3-year-old sister.

“My sister has always loved me for many years and if she died I would have been very mad," Potter said.

Right away, the Dollar General store in Lakeland, Florida, that sold Chris his bag of Pokemon lollipops cleared them from the shelves.

On Thursday, importer Sherwood brands of Maryland issued a voluntary nationwide recall of the candy made in China.

Then at Kathleen Elementary, school resource officers seized two dozen discolored Pokemon lollipops.

They brought the candy to a local hospital and x-rayed them for metal. They all came out clean, except for one which appears to have a metal staple embedded on its side.

Because the packaging doesn't appear to be compromised, investigators suspect a quality control problem and not product tampering.

But all this candy will be tested at a lab by the Food and Drug Administration just to be sure.

Polk County Sheriff Judd Grady said, “This product is made a world away under what guidelines I don't know, we'll be investigating that in the weeks to come.”

The quote said by Judd Grady upsets me a little. I don't believe the people of China are "a world away." And it bothers me that so many people think that foreign people are from different planets! We are all unified on one world!
