The 12-year-old boy charged with murder in the shooting death of an Augusta man had his first court appearance Monday morning.
The judge ruled the boy will stay in the Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center until at least his next court date, which has not been set.
The judge also requested a mental evaluation. The court also wants to make sure the boy understands the legal process.
If convicted the boy could stay in jail until he's 21 under Georgia law since he has been charged as a juvenile.
