A former Richmond County High School band director is accused of having sex with one of his students.

We're still learning much more about allegations of sex in the band room at Butler High School.

NBC Augusta has learned the Richmond County Sheriff's Office is investigating former band director Anthony Shelton.

According to a police report obtained by NBC Augusta, Shelton is accused of having sex with a 16 year-old student as many as 8 times a week for months.

The report, which was filed by the victim's mother, outlines explicit allegations including Mr. Shelton storing condoms in his desk and removing the student from other classes to have sex in the band room.

"This is the type of thing that tarnishes our ability to have positive relationships with students. I think you would find more people do the right thing, but unfortunately, incidents like this tarnish the profession," Richmond County School's Superintendent Dana Bedden said.

NBC Augusta has learned Shelton resigned as band director at Butler High School in March after allegations of misconduct surfaced. Those claims are not related to this latest accusation.

We want to point out Shelton has not been charged with any crime.

An investigator with the sheriff's office tells NBC Augusta Shelton was questioned Friday. We've also learned investigators may travel to Atlanta, where the girl now lives, to interview her.
