Chances are if you have kids in middle or high school -- they're on social networking websites like MySpace.

It's a way for them to connect with friends -- but not everything about it is friendly.

NBC Augusta spoke with a man who says he has a warning for other parents.

"The girl was threatening to whoop her up," he said. "Calling her names and just being very vulgar to her."

He says he knew which websites his daughter was visiting, and thought he knew all about MySpace.

"The way I thought MySpace was, you just couldn't do things like that," he said. "Anything on the Internet ain't safe anymore."

MySpace's terms of service prohibit threats or harassment, and the site says if you're a victim, call law enforcement.

Deputies say that is the right thing to do.

"Unless they know the person and know it's a prank or a joke, they need to take these threats seriously and notify police," said Captain Steve Morris with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

He says cyber-threats are no different than any others-- and those who threaten could be charged with a felony.

"We're going to investigate this case the same way we investigate any case here at the Sheriff's Office," Morris said.

That has one dad glad -- he says he wants to see the MySpace bully charged. But the verdict's still out if he'll let his kids keep using the website.

"That's something me and the mother will have to decide," he said.
