Bamberg County Plans To Shut Down Elementary School

By NBC Augusta Staff

NBC Augusta has told you about dwindling school budgets affecting Richmond, Columbia and Aiken counties. Now we've learned a tight budget is forcing Bamberg County to close one of its schools.

The district will close Ehrhardt Elementary later this month when the school year ends. School officials say the decision was made because of the school's small enrollment.

The district also lost money when the county's property tax for school operations was eliminated. Ehrhardt Elementary students and staff will be moved to other schools in the county.
